Most new tattoo artist "apprentice " under older established artists to give them experience, teach them the abilities to run the place from the ground up. Meaning making appointments, bookings, doing the artwork, gruntwork, and everything that entails. This way, after a few years, they know the business inside-out, and are ready to establish themselves on their own. Shows such as Miami Ink explain this in detail. New artist come and go depending on how they work, but the owner is the boss, deciding on whether the new artists are worth their salt and doing business (for him) properly. |
